Natalie Imbruglia has shared her new single “Just Drive,” the latest track to be taken from her forthcoming album Algorithm.
The album is set for release on September 4 and has already been previewed by the singles “Upside Down” and the title track.
“Just Drive” finds Imbruglia moving into sleek electro-pop territory, pairing her tender vocal delivery with luminous synths, piano flourishes and a pulsing beat. Lyrically, the song explores the aftermath of a breakup and the instinct to keep moving rather than stand still in heartbreak.
Speaking about the track, Natalie says: “I wrote ‘Just Drive’ about a breakup, and about something I think a lot of us do, which is hiding how we feel to make other people feel better. Sometimes you’d rather go through it on your own, as hard as that is. You love the other person so much, you don’t want to put them through it too.”
Imbruglia wrote and produced “Just Drive” with MyRiot, known for their work with London Grammar and Primal Scream. MyRiot also collaborated with her on several tracks from Algorithm.
Other contributors to the album include Fraser T Smith, Snow Patrol’s Gary Lightbody, Anu Pillai, Tobie Tripp, David Sneddon, Dan Priddy, Mark Crew and Romeo Stodart.
Algorithm marks a new chapter for Imbruglia, with the album described as an intensely personal record built around emotional honesty, catharsis and shimmering, dancefloor-friendly production. The record follows her long-running success as one of Australia’s most recognisable pop artists, from her global breakthrough with “Torn” and Left Of The Middle to her more recent return to the spotlight.
The album is available to pre-order now, with additional formats including a Wax and Beans limited edition transparent blue vinyl with a sparkle 7”, plus a cassette edition via Natalie’s official store.
Imbruglia has spent the year reconnecting with fans through headline shows, festivals and dates with Tom Jones. Her summer live schedule continues with dates in Poland, Southend, Tewkesbury, Perth and Madrid, before a special appearance at Jose Carreras & Friends at The Gabba in Brisbane on December 5.
