The Duke of Sussex took time out from his Invictus Games duties to take his wife Meghan Markle and their young family to a private island in the Inner Hebrides
On his flying visit to launch the countdown to next year’s Invictus Games in Birmingham, Prince Harry found time to take his family to an idyllic Scottish island. Tanera Mor, the largest of the Summer Isles, has been redeveloped as a holiday paradise by billionaire hedge fund founder Ian Wace.
Photos of the secret getaway, showing the island’s distinctive landscape, were shared on his wife Meghan Markle‘s Instagram page
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex are long-time friends of Tanera Mor’s owner. They were spotted together, along with Wace’s wife at the time, Saffron Aldridge, at a Cirque du Soleil performance at the Royal Albert Hall in 2019.
Meghan reportedly bonded with the “straight-talking” former model and their friendship was helped by a mutual interest in fashion.
Although Wace separated from his wife in 2023 and the duo have since divorced, they are understood to remain on good terms.
The Sussexes are believed to have travelled to Tanera Mor from Northamptonshire, where they had been staying with Earl and Countess Spencer at Althorp, the childhood home of Harry’s mother, Princess Diana. During their visit, Harry and Meghan laid flowers at her grave, which is located on a small island in a lake on the Althorp estate.
The family’s UK trip also included tea with King Charles and Queen Camilla at Highgrove House. The Palace described the meeting at the King’s beloved Gloucestershire home as a “private family occasion.”
The small celebration marked the first time the King has seen his grandchildren Archie, seven, and Lilibet, five, in person in more than four years.
Harry and Meghan had not visited the UK together since 2022, when they attended the funeral of Queen Elizabeth II. The prince has travelled to the country alone since 2022, and met his father on a trip last September.
Although scheduling had clearly been a challenge, with a planned stay at Buckingham Palace being cancelled at the last minute, sources told the BBC that the King had been keen to make time to see his two young grandchildren.
There was no time, however, for Harry to meet his older brother, Prince William. Relations between the two reportedly remain strained.
According to a source close to the Sussexes, Harry believes that their feud has lasted long enough.
The anonymous source told Heatworld: “From his perspective, the only way it will ever end is if they sit down one on one to sort this out.”
