Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein is joining the Criterion Collection this year, and preorders are officially live for the film’s stunning physical release (I mean, look at that cover) on 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD.
Its release is still a few months away – perfectly slotted in Halloween season on October 27 – but preorders like these can sell out fast. So if you’re a big fan of the film and are dying to have this excellent edition in your physical media library, this is the time to grab it.

As I mentioned before, this Criterion Collection release features some truly fantastic artwork on the cover by artist Denver Balbaboco. Evoking classical art styles, it has Oscar Isaac’s Victor Frankenstein in a flowing robe holding Jacob Elordi’s chained-up creature in a wonderfully dramatic pose. Just a treat for the eyes.
It’s not only the cover that’s worth shouting about, though. There’s plenty going on inside as well. This Criterion Collection release is stacked with bonus features, including an extended director’s cut of the film called Frankenstein: The Reborn Cut. While these bonus features are pretty much the same across 4K, Blu-ray, and DVD, there are a couple minor differences worth mentioning. The first is that, with the 4K and Blu-ray, you’ll get the Dolby Atmos soundtracks for the theatrical and extended director’s cut of the film. The second is that the 4K comes with two 4K UHD discs of the films presented in Dolby Vision HDR and two Blu-rays with the films and special features, but other than that, everything else is the same.
