A jury disagreed and found her guilty of murder.<\/p>\n<p>Now, the documentary will examine her fight to overturn that conviction.<\/p>\n<figure>\n<figcaption class=\"text-sm italic leading-tight mt-1\">Julie Hyde\u2019s niece Stacey is featured in The Accused: Beyond Reasonable Doubt (Credit: Channel 4)<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n<p>Stacey\u2019s case is one of four featured in the hard hitting series, which explores people who continue to challenge convictions they believe were unsafe.<\/p>\n<p>The programme promises to take viewers inside the criminal justice system and leave them questioning what really happened.<\/p>\n<h2>What The Accused: Beyond Reasonable Doubt on Channel 4?<\/h2>\n<p>The Accused: Beyond Reasonable Doubt is a four-part documentary series coming to Channel 4 this summer.<\/p>\n<p>Each episode focuses on a different criminal case involving someone who claims they have been the victim of a miscarriage of justice.<\/p>\n<p>The series explores how convictions are challenged and examines the often complicated court and appeals process.<\/p>\n<p>Channel 4 says viewers will meet people who have successfully fought for their freedom, while others remain behind bars despite continuing to protest their innocence.<\/p>\n<p>The programme aims to shine a light on the difficult questions that can arise long after a verdict has been delivered.<\/p>\n<h2>Who is Stacey Hyde?<\/h2>\n<p>One episode centres on the case of Stacey Hyde, who was convicted of murdering Vince Francis when she was 17.<\/p>\n<p>Vince died after being stabbed during a drunken confrontation at the flat he shared with Stacey\u2019s friend, Holly Banwell.<\/p>\n<p>Stacey, from Wells in Somerset, was given a life sentence with a minimum term of nine years.<\/p>\n<p>She had always insisted she acted in self defence.<\/p>\n<p>At her trial, jurors heard that Stacey had been drinking heavily before arriving at Holly and Vince\u2019s flat. It was alleged that Holly had been the victim of domestic violence at Vince\u2019s hands.<\/p>\n<p>During the incident, Stacey picked up a carving knife and stabbed Vince in the back and chest.<\/p>\n<p>The court also heard a 999 call made by Holly. She pleaded: \u201cMy boyfriend is smashing, beating up my friend.
