That news sparked questions about the nature of the Jimmy Olsen show DC Studios was thought to be working on. But based on Gunn\u2019s comments, it\u2019s as much about the supervillain as it is about the Daily Planet photojournalist.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">\u201cIt&#8217;s both a Jimmy Olsen AND a Gorilla Grodd show. And it&#8217;s one of my favorite projects. Gorilla Grodd, meanwhile, debuted in The Flash #106 back in May 1959. He is a super-intelligent ape who possesses super strength and speed as well as the powers of telepathy and telekinesis.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Late last year, it was reported that DC Studios and HBO Max were developing a fictional true crime series set in the DCU called DC Crime. According to <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/variety.com\/2025\/tv\/news\/dc-crime-hbo-max-american-vandal-gorilla-grodd-1236574395\/\" class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\"><u>Variety<\/u><\/a>, it would look and feel like a true crime docuseries presented by Jimmy Olsen, and the first season would focus on Gorilla Grodd. But Gunn has now denied the show is called DC Crime, saying in another post on <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.threads.com\/@jamesgunn\/post\/DZnttjCnZii?xmt=AQG0S_kJ4hwy62Hnb6B1EZZg_2QpUG6aiNhzoiTtmjlIJw\" class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Threads<\/a>: \u201cIt is not and has never been called DC Crime.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">In an <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/DZnlq8MvUWR\/?utm_source=ig_web_copy_link&amp;igsh=NTc4MTIwNjQ2YQ==\" class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Instagram comment<\/a>, Gunn denied claims the series started out as a Jimmy Olsen show and has become a Gorilla Grodd show instead. &#8220;It didn&#8217;t become anything,&#8221; he said. &#8220;It is what it&#8217;s always been, including pitching it as part of the package before I even started at DC.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">So, we don\u2019t know yet what this upcoming show is called, or really how it will work or fit into the ongoing DCU, which continues this summer with Supergirl, and then with next year\u2019s Superman follow-up, Man of Tomorrow.<\/p>\n<p><output class=\"box-wrapper jsx-2673806401\" data-cy=\"article-video\"\/><\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">Speaking to journalist <a target=\"_blank\" href=\"https:\/\/x.com\/mlertora\/status\/2066528469790363830\" class=\"link jsx-1337145738 jsx-3925284146 underlined\" data-cy=\"styled-link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noopener noreferrer\">Mat\u00edas L\u00e9rtora<\/a> at a screening of Supergirl at R\u00edo de Janeiro, Safran said that once Gunn is finished with Man of Tomorrow, fans will find out what the future of the DCU looks like post-2027.<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">\u201cWhen James is done with Man of Tomorrow, we\u2019ll really sit down and talk about what the next part of the story looks like,\u201d Safran said. \u201cWe have a pretty good sense of what\u2019s happening for at least the next couple of years, that\u2019s for sure.\u201d<\/p>\n<p data-cy=\"paragraph\" class=\"paragraph jsx-2269604527\">So, what might that involve? We know DC Studios plans to introduce its own Batman with The Brave and the Bold, and there are plans to eventually tie everything together with a Justice League movie.
