As a college student at Nashville\u2019s Lipscomb University, Mason began posting music to TikTok during the COVID-19 pandemic. In the studio, we had the band play it a few different ways. Telling them how you want the song to be was a little nerve-wracking at first because they are some of the best players in the world, but we made it feel like something new to me.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tThe song\u2019s layers of guitars, bass and pedal steel \u2014 added with Mason\u2019s heart-torn vocal \u2014 lay the foundation for the angsty nature of the track, particularly when combined with lyrics like \u201cYou ain\u2019t here, but you won\u2019t leave\/ You\u2019re everything I ain\u2019t over.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cDamned If I Do\u201d was officially released mid-July of last year, but Mason first teased it weeks earlier, releasing a snippet of an unfinished mix to TikTok on June 24, followed by a finished-mix snippet on the same platform July 3. According to Red Light Management\u2019s Matt Musacchio, who reached out in 2022 after discovering Mason in Apple Music\u2019s pop section, the song\u2019s initial growth was buoyed by \u201cTruckTok,\u201d a TikTok community that allows truck and truck culture enthusiasts to share their passion through TikTok videos.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cIt\u2019s always interesting to see what kind of niche audience picks up audio and runs with it,\u201d says Musacchio. \u201cWe saw a lot of truck videos early on that used this audio \u2014 it\u2019s definitely on the angstier, rock side of what Vincent does, and that plays into the truck community, especially.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\tIn November 2025, Mason released his debut album <em>There I Go<\/em> (which included \u201cDamned If I Do\u201d) and embarked on several opening tour slots. Since debuting in mid-June as both of the artists\u2019 second Hot 100 entry \u2014 Lefty\u2019s Noah Kahan-interpolating \u201cBoston\u201d has taken off in the past few months, reaching No. 14 \u2014 the track has continued to climb as the couple has soared in commercial prominence in tandem.<\/p>\n<p class=\"paragraph larva \/\/ lrv-u-margin-lr-auto  lrv-a-font-body-m   \">\n\t\u201cShe wrote \u2018Something To Lose\u2019 and a few other songs in that first week of us hanging out and was like, \u2018It\u2019s kind of about you and me starting to hang out and talk,\u2019\u201d Mason says. \u201cIt\u2019s cool to see that one working as well. That was the first real collaboration I\u2019ve done.
