The 77-year-old pop star from Lennoxtown, who achieved international fame over the course of her career, will speak at the inaugural Scottish Recovery Awards this autumn.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">The role is of particular significance to the star who has fought her own battles with alcoholism over the years, which she has been very open about. Lulu previously described herself as a \u201chighly functioning alcoholic\u201d but after a successful stint in rehab, the singer is now 13 years sober.<\/p>\n<p class=\"Paragraph_paragraph-text__PVKlh\" data-tmdatatrack=\"content-unit\" data-tmdatatrack-type=\"paragraph\">In an emotional interview on <a target=\"_blank\" aria-label=\"BBC BreakfastLink opens in a new tab.\" class=\"TextLink_text-link__dBSS0 TextLink_enabled__dJF3l\" href=\"https:\/\/www.dailyrecord.co.uk\/all-about\/bbc-breakfast\" rel=\"follow\" tabindex=\"0\" target=\"_blank\">BBC Breakfast<\/a> last year, she admitted she had managed to keep her drinking habits a secret from friends and family for years due to her ability to get on with work after heavy nights of boozing.
