For being one of the longest summers possible–the distance between Memorial Day and Labor Day is the farthest it can be–this summer has absolutely flown by. Sure, there’s still a month and a half, but school here begins August 12 (!!!), and that may as well be fall. The good news is that, despite how fast things have gone, I’m really happy with how much time I’ve been able to spend reading so far. I’ve also enjoyed so much of what I’ve read, too. Participating in my library’s adult summer reading club has been a cherry on top; it definitely motivated me to read every night before bed, rather than just most nights. You take the Ws where you get them, even if you know maintaining that habit may change with the shifting of seasons.

Whether you’re feeling the end of summer, are luxuriating in it, or hoping that it’ll end sooner rather than later, the good news I’ve repeated every week since Memorial Day remains: new YA books are still hitting shelves, so you can continue to build that never-ending TBR.

This week, we’ve got another book being released simultaneously in hardcover and in paperback. There are several books for readers who love their reads on the scarier side, as well as books that explore mental health, the paranormal, and more. Like revenge tales? We’ve got that, too.

“Lethal Lullaby.” That’s the name of the podcast Alex’s friends help him start as he awaits trial in a case that promises to change his life forever. “Lethal Lullaby” is where Alex tells his story of growing up as a victim of Munchausen by proxy at the hands of his mother. As he has worked to recover, though, he’s now facing the reality of testifying against his mother. The podcast, as powerful as it is for him, is also leading him to uncover more revelations about his life, who he is, and what he wants.

Alex’s current mental health is challenging him. This time, he knows it’s not because of his mom–or at least not directly. Does he have the capacity to find the courage to testify? To get the help he needs in untangling the truth of his life from that which is fiction?

This one’s getting comps to Sadie.
