Philips’ Multigroom 7000 Series review: The one grooming tool that almost does it all

As for the nose and ear hair trimmer? It’s surprisingly effective as well, avoiding the faff and discomfort of having my sensitive nostrils and ears waxed or singed – an experience I’d pay more than the price of this Philips not to relive. Throughout all my hair-eradicating endeavours with the Multigroom 7000, I never experienced pulling, snagging, cuts, or irritation anywhere during testing – it’s a thoroughly confident product.

Design and features: Boxy ergonomics

The Multigroom 7000 feels like a premium product, and I’d expect no less given its Philips badging and £105 price tag. Its dark grey finish is contrasted by tasteful pastel green accents, and Philips has carried the same hue across several of its attachments. Its boxy shape is a little unusual compared to other electric groomers, but I’m happy to report that it passes the ergonomics test with flying colours. From below-the-belt trimming to trickier areas like around the ears, the Multigroom 7000’s textured grip feels safe, secure, and oddly comfortable, given its unconventional shape.

The Multigroom 7000 also features Philips’ BeardSense technology, which scans beard density 125 times per second and automatically adjusts power output when tackling denser facial hair. In practice, it’s difficult to tell when the system is working, but it never once felt short of power during testing. As for maintenance? It’s refreshingly straightforward. The trimmer is fully waterproof, making it easy to rinse under the tap after use, while the self-sharpening metal blades are designed to remain sharp without requiring oiling. Believe me, that’s not something you want to faff around with with a product that’s entrusted to your undercarriage.

Battery life and accessories: Ample stamina

Battery life this the last thing you want to be worrying about when you’re midway through a chest hair tune-up, and the Multigroom 7000 has been built with that in mind. Philips claims up to 120 minutes of cordless use from a one-hour charge, and my experience matches up with that. Better still, there’s a five-minute quick-charge function for emergency grooming sessions should you really get unlucky. Less convient is this Philips’ proprietary charging cable, which is hopeless out ot date when brands Manscaped and Laifen already offer more convenient USB-C charging ports that use the same connector as yoru iPhone.

As for the accessories, it’s worth listing out what you actually get in the box, as it’s an almost overwhelming amount of stuff. My MG7962/30 review unit bundle includes a [deep breath] full-size metal trimmer, detail trimmer, nose and ear trimmer, body trimmer, eyebrow comb, dedicated intimate comb, body combs, adjustable beard and hair combs, wide hair clipper, four hair guards, travel lock attachment, soft storage pouch, and charging cable. If I wanted to be picky, I’d say that one or two accessories amount to overkill, but it’s hard to complain about getting more for your money. And should I ever wish to restore my permanently shaved head to its former glories, it’s good to have the option.
