Need to know
ITV viewers have been left wondering what the new Love Island bombshell’s name really means
Everything you need to know about Love Island bombshell Simba’s unique name
- Two new bombshells are entering the Love Island villa tonight in yet another unexpected twist. Last night (June 9) saw recent arrivals Victoria Onanusi and Namibia Rosa choose their favourite boys in a shock recoupling. Victoria opted for Ope Sowande, while Namibia chose Sam Workman.
- The recoupling left three girls single, but new hunks Simba Kudyiwa and Tommy Murphy will join the show just in time to save them. During his entrance video, Simba teased that the other boys should be scared to have him as competition because he’s about to be “king of the villa”.
- He was seemingly hinting that he shares his name with the ‘king of the jungle’ in The Lion King. But what does his unique name actually mean?
- The new bombshell hails from Zimbabwe although he lives in Enfield. In the country’s Shona language, Simba actually translates to ‘strength’.
- However, it has different meanings in other African languages. In Swahili, often spoken in Southern Africa, Simba translates to ‘Lion’. This is what inspired the name for The Lion King’s main character Simba, a young lion prince.
