Fakemink wears his hotel slippers out shopping, too

A world tour is tough work. Between the flights and the soundchecks and the never-ending cycle of living out of a suitcase, you’ve got to find little ways to make life easier. Sometimes that means ordering room service. Sometimes it means sleeping until 3pm. And sometimes, if you’re Fakemink, it means wearing your hotel slippers everywhere. Seriously. Everywhere.

Just before performing at Milan’s Magazzini Generali yesterday, the British rapper was spotted shopping at Gucci (a house that he knows all too well). But while most artists would’ve used the opportunity to flex a pair of impossible-to-cop grails or some pristine box-fresh sneaks, Fakemink went in a completely different direction.

At first glance, you might assume his slippers were some super-exclusive pair that costs more than a month’s rent or one made from some of the finest cashmere the world has to offer. But a closer look tells a different story. Just a few days earlier, on June 5, Fakemink performed at Primavera Sound in Barcelona. And while we don’t exactly know for sure, it’s entirely possible that he stayed at the Hotel Miramar while he was there. What makes us think this? Well, because that’s the exact logo that’s embroidered across the front of the slippers. Now, obviously, we can’t say for certain that he liberated them from his hotel room. But the evidence is sitting right there on his feet.

And we get it. Touring sounds glamorous until you remember that you’re constantly travelling, constantly working, and constantly sleeping in a different bed every night. If you find a pair of slippers that make everything slightly more bearable, why shouldn’t they graduate from poolside accessory to everyday shoe?

Besides, fashion’s already halfway there. This season alone, labels like Dior, Dolce & Gabbana, and Emporio Armani have all been pushing silky pyjamas, dressing gowns, and clothes that look suspiciously close to loungewear. Extending that philosophy to your footwear doesn’t feel particularly radical.

Plus, it also happens to fit Fakemink’s vibe perfectly. In a 2024 interview with No Bells, he said: “I feel like I’m a homebody. I just spend most of my time being peaceful and sleeping. And I record at home. I just make music at home. If I’m outside for more than six hours, then I’ll get pissed off and wanna go home.”

Maybe that’s why the slippers make so much sense. When you’re spending months away from home, sometimes the closest thing you’ve got is whatever’s waiting beside the hotel bed.
