The Office star Rainn Wilson doesn’t think the popular NBC sitcom could be made in 2026.

The 60-year-old actor, who played Dwight Schrute on The Office across all nine seasons, told Fox News Digital that it would be “too hard” to pull it off in this day and age because of how “politically incorrect” it was.

“And I do kind of miss that,” Rain said, going on to say the “really inappropriate” comedy on the show would make it hard to air on modern-day television.

“We milked that for a lot of great, really inappropriate stuff. But even with the fact that painting that character as just an idiot, I don’t think you could get away with it today,” the Star Trek: Discovery star explained.

Rainn previously talked about The Office‘s boundary-pushing humor during a September 2025 podcast, in which he claimed that if the shower were made now, it would be “very, very different.”

However, The Office did launch a successful spinoff series in The Paper, another mockumentary sitcom released on Peacock last fall. It has been renewed for a second season.

Earlier this year, actor Brian Baumgartner, who played Kevin Malone on The Office, shared one of the jokes that didn’t make it to air.
