Stand-up tells a sceptical Tom Davis his career has just two more years

He’s one of the hardest-working men in comedy – but Romesh Ranganathan has suggested that he’ll walk away from it all in two years.

The comic – whose TV and radio ubiquity has become something of an industry running joke – says he’s ready to step away from stand-up and the accompanying fame when he tuns 50.

He made the confession while talking to Tom Davis on a recent episode of their podcast Wolf & Owl – with the comments subsequently picked up by The Sun.

Davis, above, asked his pal: ‘You’re quitting at 50, right?’

To which Ranganathan replied: ‘Yeah, I’m 48 now. You’ve got two years left of the podcast.’

Davis joked: We’ve got two years, and it gets to 50 and then you’re walking away. Like the Hulk…”

Ranganathan replied: ‘I’m not really walking away. There will be a big step back at 50.”

But a sceptical Davis reminded him he’d said the same thing at 45.

‘What I’m saying is, I’m doing the things I want to do because I’m building up to the big step back,’ Ranganathan replied.

‘No you’re not,’ Davis said bluntly.

Romesh then conceded he might do gigs ‘here and there’ and said the might call his farewell tour The Big Step Back, adding: ‘It’ll be a mini tour, and the last date will be on my 50th birthday… And then I’ll go “It’s been fun guys!”’

That day will be March 27, 2028.
