Caroline’s brother Paul has died six years after the TV presenter took her own life
Caroline Flack’s brother Paul’s final post on Instagram post has taken on a deeply emotional significance following the news of his death at the age of 55.
Paul died after being found unresponsive at his home in Norwich on June 21. He was taken to Norfolk and Norwich Hospital, where he later died, just three days after his 55th birthday.
His death comes six years after Caroline’s death in February 2020 at the age of 40, a tragedy that prompted a nationwide conversation about mental health and the pressures faced by those in the public eye.
In the days following his sister’s death, Paul shared what would become his final Instagram post. Alongside a childhood photograph of Caroline, he wrote: “This will be my last post here. May those who know feel shame for eternity. Love you Caroline.”
The tribute has remained his last post on the social media platform, with Paul never sharing another update again in the six years that has passed since his sisters death.
Following news of his death, many people returned to the post to leave messages of sympathy and their condolences for the Flack family, particularly Caroline and Paul’s mother, Christine. One user said: “Rip. Sorry for your families loss. Love you to and Caroline’s mum, sister and family.”
With another user writing: “So so sad. RIP Paul. Reunited with Caroline,” alongside multiple heartbroken emojis. As a third simply stated: “I watch Caroline still, all the time. Thinking of you and your lovely family x.”
Another user commented: “RIP Paul, may you spend eternity with Caroline and I send enormous strength to your mum and family.”
Paul and Caroline were always close and back in 2021, he appeared alongside his mother Christine and sister Elizabeth in the documentary Caroline Flack: Her Life and Death.
The Amazon Prime Video documentary explored Caroline’s life, career and the impact that fame, mental health struggles, media attention and social media scrutiny had on her.
During the programme, Paul spoke about the family’s enduring grief, revealing that Caroline was the first thing they thought about every morning as they gathered at her memorial bench on a rainy day.
While their mother Christine reflected on the period leading up to her daughter’s death, saying her biggest regret was her not speaking out sooner.
She said: “I think Caroline would be pleased with what I’m doing. I wish I had done it then, before she took her own life, and that’s my biggest regret, that I wasn’t shouting like this, then. But now I have nothing to lose. The worst thing in the world happened with losing Carrie.”
Following his death a provisional post-mortem has ruled Paul’s cause of death as cardiac arrest due to hanging.Paul, who worked as an artist and graphic designer, is survived by his partner and two children.
