The Harry Potter films have been made available to watch for free on ITVX – as part of a new partnership between ITV and Warner Bros.
All eight films in the main series plus the three Fantastic Beasts films are now streaming on the platform, while future broadcasts on both ITV1 and ITV2 are also planned as part of the agreement.
Speaking about the deal, ITV’s head of content acquisitions Darren Nartey said he was “extremely proud to make these iconic British films available for both old and new fans to stream, for free, during the summer holidays and beyond”.
The film franchise will be celebrating it’s 25th anniversary later this year, with the first movie – Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone – having been released in cinemas in November 2001.
Of course, this year also marks the release of the new TV series adaptation of the books, with the show set to debut on HBO Max on Christmas Day.
The show will devote an entire season to each entry in JK Rowling’s series of books, with a second run already having been confirmed ahead of the launch of season one.
Harry Potter author Rowling has faced backlash in some quarters due to her views on transgender rights.
In 2020, she published a lengthy statement detailing her stance on sex and gender debates – the essay was criticised and disputed by LGBTQ+ charities including Stonewall.
Rowling has also shared her views on social media, including in a 2024 post on X (formerly Twitter), in which she insisted that “there are no trans kids” and opposed the idea that a child can be “born in the wrong body”.
In May 2025, Rowling set up the JK Rowling Women’s Fund, which describes itself as offering legal funding support to “individuals and organisations fighting to retain women’s sex-based rights”.
Harry Potter actors including Daniel Radcliffe, Rupert Grint, and Emma Watson, have distanced themselves from Rowling’s views and have issued statements supporting the transgender community.
Others, including Fiennes, Helena Bonham Carter and Jim Broadbent, have defended the author from the criticism she has received.
