Natalie McCool has shared her new single “We’re The Ones,” taken from her forthcoming album Good For The Soul, out September 9.
The track follows recent single “Coming Of Age,” featuring Trans Voices, and gives another glimpse of the boundary-pushing alt-pop sound McCool explores across the new record.
“We’re The Ones” moves between spacious, airy verses and thunderous, energising beats, allowing McCool’s voice to sit at the centre of the track while building into something more expansive and euphoric.
Lyrically, the song captures the tension between youthful optimism and the realities of adulthood, celebrating the freedom and possibility of the present while acknowledging what lies ahead.
Speaking about the single, Natalie said: “‘We’re The Ones’ is a euphoric, expansive track that celebrates youthful optimism in the face of monotonous adulthood, holding onto the vivid imagination and sense of ‘wilderness’ that comes so easily in youth.”
“We’re The Ones” was written, produced, recorded and mixed by McCool, with additional production and mixing from Andy Hall Hall. Drums were performed by Rhys Jiang.
Good For The Soul is described as a musically adventurous album, moving from heavyweight summer pop to darker, moodier atmospherics while exploring personal experiences of joy, despair and catharsis.
Originally from Widnes and now based in Liverpool, McCool has previously released The Great Unknown and Memory Girl, earned Radio 1 airplay, and co-curated and performed Welcome To Eurotopia as part of Liverpool’s Eurovision Cultural Festival.
Natalie McCool will play album launch shows at Liverpool’s Kazimier Stockroom on October 9 and London’s Sebright Arms on October 10. She is also confirmed for Henley Festival on July 11, St. Michael’s Sessions in Liverpool on July 17, and DevaFest on August 9.
