Scottish singer Lewis Capaldi, who headlines the BST Festival this weekend, has named a restaurant in Glasgow as the home of the best curry you’ll ever have as he gave the eatery a big shout out

Lewis Capaldi reckons a Glasgow restaurant dishes up the “best curry you’ll ever have”.
The revelation comes as the Scottish singer-songwriter prepares to headline the BST Festival in Hyde Park, London, this weekend. He’s appearing at the huge event tonight (Saturday, July 11) and tomorrow, with tonight’s performance being live streamed on YouTube.
The 28 year old has lately re-emerged into the spotlight following a two-year hiatus dedicated to his wellbeing. Lewis disclosed in 2022 that he’d received a Tourette syndrome diagnosis and had started experiencing panic attacks.
Yet last year he staged a spectacular comeback at Glastonbury’s Pyramid Stage while his track Survive subsequently reached number one in the UK charts. Something in the Heavens has also claimed the top spot.
During a 2022 radio interview, Lewis was quizzed about which WhatsApp group chats he’s got on his mobile. It was then the Glasgow-born star paid homage to one of his neighbourhood curry establishments.
Speaking on Absolute Radio, he said: “There’s one called ‘Curry Boys’. We come [together] and we have a curry. Mother India, in Glasgow, Scotland, best curry you’ll ever have,” reports Glasgow Live.
That wasn’t the sole occasion the Someone You Loved performer championed the establishment. Speaking to The National in 2023, Lewis lauded Glasgow for being “unlike anywhere else in the world”.
And he once more highlighted the beloved restaurant as among his favourite spots. He added: “Mother India is probably my favourite, to be honest. I f*****g love Mother India, so big shout out to them.”
Billing itself as a “labour of love”, the original Mother India first welcomed diners in 1990.
Since then, Monir and Smeena Mohammed have established restaurants across Glasgow and Edinburgh throughout the past three decades.
The establishment prides itself on delivering “authentic, high quality and delicious Indian home cooking served in a relaxing, welcoming and comfortable dining environment”. It currently boasts a 4.3 rating on Tripadvisor from more than 1,500 reviews.
One recent customer said: “Visited last night without a reservation where we were welcomed by a smiling front staff who immediately offered a table. The manager pointed us to a lovely table on the 1st floor . We were provided promptly with a menu and drinks. The food was served with no delay. Massive thank you to the chef for the lovely food.”
Another remarked: “Long overdue return visit to Mother India. Went for lunch on Easter Sunday. Warm welcome from the front of house staff who showed us to our table in the upstairs dining room. Decor just as we remembered. Excellent and attentive service.
“Ordered off the à la carte. All the food that we ordered was as delicious as we remembered, the fish pakora, black dhal and butter chicken the standout dishes. Mother India remains the top Indian restaurant in Glasgow. Must definitely visit more often!”
A third was equally complementary, saying: “Mother India was recommended to us before our recent trip to Glasgow. We were in the basement, which was busy and had a good atmosphere, and our table (and indeed all the tables) were old doors – covered in glass – which we all agreed was quite cool. The menu choice wasn’t huge but the food was excellent and portions generous and the service was very good.”
