A Love Island couple has revealed they were on the verge of quitting the show before ITV producers stepped in
Love Island stars often fight for their place in the villa, but others are more than happy to walk away from the ITV show.
That was the case for Lola Deal and Sean Fitzgerald, who volunteered to leave the villa earlier this week. Their decision came when they landed in the bottom three after the public voted for their favourite Islanders.
Favourite couple Lorenzo Alessi and Julia Majchrzak were then tasked with choosing a couple to dump from the show. Before they could even discuss their choice, Lola and Sean put themselves forward in order to save the other vulnerable couples.
Lorenzo and Julia honoured their wish, but fans at home were completely stunned by the self-sacrifice twist.
It turns out Lola and Sean had been contemplating leaving the programme for a while, so much so that producers had to step in.
Speaking on the Showbiz Fix podcast, Sean explained: “We probably talked about it I’d say every day.
“I’d say for a week and a half probably before it happened, we were talking about it most days saying ‘Oh will we just go today?'”
The duo felt like they weren’t getting anything out of the experience since they had been coupled up from the start. Their only silver lining was spending 24 hours of every day together.
Sean went on to admit he was also “sick of the tests” in the villa. “I was like ‘alright we’ve had enough tests we can leave?,'” he said. Producers naturally caught on to the duo’s plan to walk out, and they had a conversation with them.
Sean revealed: “Obviously they’d be kind of like ‘Oh no you know, you stay’ and all this kind of stuff.”
Lola jumped in to add: “I think we’d sort of made our minds up a little bit.” The former detective felt it was the right time to end their villa journey.
Upon her exit, she told ITV: “I think it was the perfect end to our journey. Me and Sean were really happy to have gone. I think we had the most incredible time there. We met the most incredible people and most of all, we found each other.”
Love Island continues on ITV2 and ITVX tonight at 9pm.
