The Scottish stars battled it out for the title
It’s no secret that Scotland has cultivated some of the biggest names in show business – but who is the greatest? The long-standing question has arisen once more after homegrown talents Alan Cumming and Sam Heughan went head to head to find out.
The American Traitors host and Outlander star were in Scotland over the weekend at Pithlocry Festival Theatre, where Cumming interviewed Heughan about all things Outlander. Between this, the pair took some time out to have some fun.
In a tongue and cheek video shared on social media, the Scottish actors donned their kilts and sat down for their “Netflix documentary about who is America’s favourite Scot”.
Shared on Instagram by Pithlochry Festival Theatre, its caption read: “Alan Cumming vs. Sam Heughan…who gets your vote?!”
While the pair seemed serious, it was all part of a viral trend and done in good fun. But this didn’t stop folks from weighing in on who their favourite Scot is. And plenty of recognisable names were thrown into the ring.
Firstly determining between the main contenders, it was a close call, but most couldn’t pick one. As one fan said: “Between these two legends, the only correct answer is…both.
But another name did however pop up multiple times, making him the “winner” – David Tennant. The Doctor Who actor appeared multiple times in the comments section, meaning he technically bet Sam and Alan.
One response sparked a wave of support: “You two are lovely buuuuttt David Tennant.”
Plenty of responders echoed David’s victory, responding to the initial comment: “Came here to say but where is David?” As another wrote: “Came here to say this exact thing.” A third penned: “Came here to say this lmao.” While a fourth penned: David Tennant!!!! Always.”
Others followed suit in separate comments: “You win, it’s absolutely David Tennant.” A second read: “I was about to comment that my favourite was actually David Tennant!” As a third wrote: “Came here to say but where is David?”
While it seems that David has taken the crown, there were many other famous Scots hailed. One response had a few favourites.
They said: “I mean, both… plus David Tennant. And Billy Boyd, Craig Ferguson, Billy Connolly, Annie Lennox, Karen Gillan, Ewan McGregor, Gerard Butler, James McAvoy, Ncuti Gatwa, Rose Leslie, Graham McTavish, Peter Capaldi, Phyllis Logan, Lindsay Duncan.”
Scot Craig Ferguson was even put in the running – by Craig himself. The Craig in question was the 22 year-old Paisley mental health activist who completed a 3,000 mile “Tartan Trek” across the US for charity. He did take the time to mention his comedian counterpart of the same name.
Craig wrote: “Justice for the Craig Fergusons.”
But for Sam and Alan, it ultimately came down to a tie. “Listen, this isn’t Highlander, so there can be more than one.”
So, who is your favourite?
