The Mangione Trial visualised podcast from BBC World Service is returning to provide detailed coverage of Luigi Mangione’s state trial in New York this September.
Luigi Mangione, who denies all charges related to the killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson, will face trial in Manhattan, with BBC presenter Jordan Dunbar reporting directly from the courtroom.
Jordan will attend court hearings in person, offering listeners updates on legal arguments, evidence and key moments as the case unfolds.
The podcast will give audiences a clear understanding of one of America’s most closely watched criminal cases, using on-the-ground reporting and expert analysis.
Ahead of the trial, a new series of in-depth episodes will be released in August, providing context and background to the case.
One episode explores the debate around ‘pretty privilege’ and examines claims that physical appearance may influence public perception, media coverage and even courtroom outcomes.
Another episode investigates the significant online interest in Luigi Mangione’s prison mailbag, with legal experts discussing what the correspondence might reveal about the case and why the replies could be important.
A further episode considers the challenge of ensuring a fair trial for Mangione amid intense media scrutiny and the large volume of information already available to the public. Experts discuss the difficulties of finding an impartial jury in such a high-profile case.
Jordan Dunbar says: “The killing of UnitedHealthcare CEO Brian Thompson attracted international attention, but the unprecedented response to Luigi Mangione’s arrest quickly became a global conversation.
“I’ll be examining the issues at the heart of that debate, answering listeners’ questions and providing clear, fact-based updates on the case from inside and outside the courtroom.”
Clare Fordham, podcast editor, adds: “There is so much online chat and misinformation surrounding this case. The audience can be confident they’ll get all the detailed information about this trial from The Mangione Trial podcast, and they can trust it will be right.”
New episodes will be available from 11 August on BBC Sounds and other podcast platforms, with video episodes on the BBC World Service YouTube channel. Trial coverage, including updates on jury selection, will begin in early September.
