After being dropped by Peacock in 2025 — ugh, as if! — the long-gestating TV version of Clueless has found a new home at Paramount+.

Alicia Silverstone is set to reprise her role as Cher Horowitz, the ditzy Valley Girl who’s now a mother of her own and feeling as confused as ever. The six-episode series is expected to begin production in Los Angeles in 2027.

The original 1995 feature from Paramount Pictures is loosely based on the Jane Austen novel Emma. It spawned countless catchphrases, a television spin-off that ran from 1996 to 1999, and a lasting pop-culture legacy that includes being inducted into the National Film Registry. But there is clearly still more story to tell about stylish teenagers living it up in Beverly Hills.

The Challenge Season 42

Read on for everything to know about the new Clueless TV show.

THE CAST

As of this writing, only Silverstone has been announced to appear in Paramount+’s television version. The jury is still out on whether any of the other original cast members will return, including Paul Rudd as Josh Lucas, Stacey Dash as Dionne Davenport, Jeremy Sisto as Elton Tiscia, Breckin Meyer as Travis Birkenstock, Wallace Shawn as Mr. Wendell Hall, and Donald Faison as Murray Duvall. Brittany Murphy, who played Tai Frasier, died in 2009.

THE PLOT

Here’s the official Paramount+ logline: “Beloved Beverly Hills icon Cher Horowitz has figured out a lot: She’s successful in business and has mastered motherhood — that is, until her daughter’s high school years, and Cher finds that parenting a teenager makes her feel ‘clueless’ all over again.”

THE CREATIVES

Josh Schwartz, Stephanie Savage, and Jordan Weis are writers and executive producers of the new Clueless, with Silverstone also serving as an EP. Amy Heckerling, the film’s original writer and director, and Robert Lawrence, the film’s original producer, are returning as EPs.

THE ANNOUNCEMENT

Jane Wiseman, head of originals for Paramount+, announced the project on July 30, 2026: “Clueless is coming home. Thirty-one years ago, Alicia Silverstone’s Cher Horowitz captivated audiences with her signature chic style, sharp wit, and relentless optimism, helping make Clueless a box-office hit and instant pop-culture classic. We’re especially proud to be filming this much-anticipated series in Los Angeles, honoring its starring role in the original film while investing in the city’s exceptional talent and crews.”

THE RELEASE DATE

Production on the six new episodes is slated to begin in 2027 in Los Angeles. That means the program will likely air in late 2027 or early 2028. Stay tuned.
