Long before Callum Turner was the Callum Turner, he was a model. He also worked at Dover Street Market in London, where being surrounded by some of the nicest clothes on Planet Earth was literally part of the gig. So it makes sense that, even now, he knows exactly when to play it safe and when to switch things up.
For the New York City premiere of his new film One Night Only (also starring Monica Barbaro, FYI), Turner pulled up to the red carpet in custom Louis Vuitton. On paper, it kept things pretty classic. A navy double-breasted suit. OK! Matching trousers. Sure! Black leather Oxfords. You got it! But then you get to the shirt and tie.

Instead of defaulting to the usual white shirt and dark tie combo, the Masters of the Air star went with a butter yellow cotton poplin shirt and a brown striped silk tie. Now, blue, yellow and brown aren’t exactly the first three colours you’d put together. But against the navy tailoring, they feel warm and rich and just a little unexpected.
And that’s the thing with navy tailoring. Most of us own some version of it already. It’s reliable, it goes with everything, and it’s also very easy to get stuck wearing it exactly the same way every single time. Turner proves you don’t actually need a new suit to make it feel fresh – you just need to stop reaching for the obvious.
There’s another reason this look works so well. Callum Turner is a pretty hench dude, and conventional tailoring wisdom says bigger guys should steer clear of DBs. The extra layer of fabric and wider front are supposed to make you look stockier and shorter. But that’s only really true if the fit is off. His jacket nips in nicely at the waist, giving him more shape rather than more bulk, while the clean shoulders stop the silhouette from feeling boxy. Add in a pair of trousers with a good amount of drape, and the whole thing looks nice and balanced.
Which is probably the biggest takeaway here. The suit itself isn’t doing anything new. What’s different is how it’s been styled. Sometimes the easiest way to make your two-piece feel brand new isn’t to buy another one, it’s to wear the one you’ve already got a little differently.
