It’s no secret that Anne Hathaway is having one of the busiest years of her career. So far in 2026, the acclaimed actress has starred in Mother Mary, The Devil Wears Prada 2 and The Odyssey – with another film, sci-fi survival film The End of Oak Street, set to be released later this week.
And now, a brand new trailer for Hathaway’s fifth cinematic offering of the year, Verity, has been released – and it looks like it’s set to be a spooky one.
The film is an adaptation of the bestselling novel by author Colleen Hoover. Though perhaps best known for her romance novels, Verity is a departure of the norm for Hoover, with the book billed as a psychological thriller.
The “seductive” thriller, set to be released in cinemas on 2 October, follows Lowen Ashleigh (played by Materialists‘ Dakota Johnson), a struggling writer who relocates to a remote home to ghostwrite a book for renowned author Verity Crawford (Hathaway).
However, when Lowen arrives at the estate and uncovers Verity’s autobiography notes, she discovers that far deeper secrets are lurking within the Crawford family.
You can watch the brand new trailer below.
Alongside Hathaway and Johnson, the film also stars Josh Hartnett (Trap, The Virgin Suicides) as Verity’s husband Jeremy, Brady Wagner (Liz Here Now) as Verity and Jeremy’s son Crew, and Ismael Cruz Córdova (The Good Wife) as Corey. There are also roles for Irina Dvorovenko, KK Moggie and Michael Abbott Jr.

The film is directed by Michael Showalter, the creator of the Wet Hot American Summer franchise who also helmed the likes of Jessica Chastain-starring The Eyes of Tammy Faye, and last year’s Christmas film Oh. What. Fun, starring Michelle Pfeiffer. Showalter also previously worked with Hathaway on 2024 romantic comedy The Idea of You.
Nick Antosca is on screenwriting duties, with producers including Alex Hedlund, Stacey Sher and Jordana Mollick, as well as Hathaway and Hoover. Dakota Johnson, Lauren Levine and Kerry Orent will executively produce.
The film is the fourth of Hoover’s novels to be adapted for the big screen, following It Ends With Us (2024), Regretting You (2025) and Reminders of Him (2026).
Verity will be released in cinemas on Friday 2 October.
