If you’ve ever experienced skin redness, whether it’s a gentle flush or a full-on flare-up, you’ll know how frustrating it can be. “Redness in the skin can develop for a variety of reasons, and it’s often the skin’s way of signalling inflammation or irritation,” says consultant dermatologist Dr Derrick Phillips. “Common causes include acne, rosacea, and eczema, all of which trigger an inflammatory response, resulting in dilatation of small blood vessels, making the skin appear red and flushed. Environmental factors such as UV radiation, wind, heat and cold can also trigger redness, especially in people with sensitive skin.”
