Bonnie Tyler’s life and legacy will be remembered today (August 17) as her nearest and dearest gather for the star’s funeral. Many fans in Wales have already paid tribute to the Total Eclipse Of The Heart singer as her body was returned to her home town over the weekend.

It was sadly announced on July 9 that Bonnie, whose real name is Gaynor Hopkins, had died in Portugal a few months after receiving emergency intestinal surgery. In the statement, the 75-year-old’s family and friends had been left heartbroken by her “unexpected” passing.

Ahead of the funeral, fans lined the streets of Mumbles in Swansea on Saturday, August 15, as her coffin was led in a procession to her home. The emotional crowd was seen to burst into a rendition of Total Eclipse Of The Heart as her coffin, draped in the Welsh flag, passed by.

The superstar’s funeral will be held at Swansea Minister at midday today, where Bonnie’s life will be celebrated. While many fans will want to pay their respects, entry to the church will be for family, friends and invited guests only.

However, the hour-long service is reportedly being aired on a large screen in St David’s Square. Additionally, fans from far and wide can also watch the funeral online for free here. The live stream is expected to begin at 11am.

Following the service, Tyler will be taken on a final journey through her hometown of Skewen, near Neath, at around 1:20pm. The celebration of Tyler will then finish with a private family committal and farewell service.

According to Swansea Council, the funeral procession will travel along Fabian Way to Ashleigh Terrace and through Jersey Marine. It will then pass through Pen Y Heol, Burrows Road, Hen Hoel, New Road, Sidling Terrace, Park Avenue and Peniel Green Road.

Bonnie’s passing comes just months after she was put into an induced coma while in intensive care following emergency intestinal surgery in Portugal.

Fear surrounding the singer’s health first sparked in March 2026 when she was forced to postpone the European leg of her tour.

Announcing her passing in July, an Instagram statement read: “Bonnie’s family and team are heartbroken to announce that Bonnie unexpectedly passed away last night in hospital in Portugal as a result of the illness that she was being treated for.”

Many stars have since paid tribute to Tyler, including Catherine Zeta-Jone, Sir Cliff Richard, Sir Rod Stewart, and Bryan Adams.

Britain’s Got Talent star Susan Boyle also shared a heartfelt tribute to Bonnie on Instagram, calling the chart topper an “instant friend”.

Sharing snaps of the pair, Susan wrote: “Bonnie, I will forever hold dear our time together at the Vatican. You became an instant friend, like I had always known you.

“Your personality matched your voice, one of a kind. I am heartbroken we won’t be seeing you in August. Sending love and prayers to Robert, your loved ones and all your fans around the world. Rest in eternal peace, Bonnie.”

Fans in Swansea have also shared kind words about the singer, with many seeing her as a local “who happened to be famous”.
