The revolutionary new treatment that transformed my rosacea

As a beauty editor, I’ve been lucky to try many different treatments over the years. But few have blown me away quite like Rexonage, which has, as it happens, now become one of this year’s most talked-about treatments.

I came to it via rosacea, a new-to-me affliction that appeared about 18 months ago after a period of stress. For the first time in my life, my cheeks were consistently flushed, sore and inflamed. Even professionally recommended skincare switches made little difference.

And, as someone who has always had pretty well-behaved skin, my confidence dived. Then an industry friend told me that a new machine, Rexonage3, could be The One. I must book, they said. And fast.

So the following week I was knocking at the front door of the brilliant regenerative and longevity specialist Viviana Botoaca at Geneviv Clinic in Belgravia, hoping for a miracle. And, honestly, I found one — although of course, there’s no magic at play here.

Three months and six treatments later, my complexion is transformed. Far from perfect, by the way — because skin isn’t — and, as Botoaca explains, rosacea is “an inflammatory dysregulation influenced by hormones, gut health, nutrition, the microbiome and even brain functionality — think stress, anxiety and sleep issues”.

Treating it effectively means addressing both the affected areas and the root causes. And I’m not quite there yet on the latter. But gone are the angry, raw bits and rashes. Redness, dilated capillaries and reactivity have been significantly diminished. Most days now, my skin is pretty clear and dependable, any rogue redness easily dealt with using medium coverage concealer.

Thrillingly, it is also subtly bouncier and firmer — side effects of the treatment that, you’ll understand, I am far from unhappy about.

What makes Rexonage3 especially interesting is how different its approach is from that of many of the most effective aesthetic treatments we’ve relied upon for years. Fractional lasers, peels and radiofrequency microneedling deliberately create damage through heat, triggering the skin’s healing response to stimulate collagen and elastin and — hopefully — give you a fresher, more youthful-looking complexion.

But this approach isn’t necessarily suitable for sensitive, reactive or inflamed skin. Rexonage takes a different, anti- inflammatory route, using Quantum Molecular Resonance (QMR) — low-intensity, high-frequency electrical signals delivered into the skin without heat, needles or intentional damage — to trigger a resonance at the cellular level, shifting stem cells into regeneration mode. As such, tissue regeneration, not repair, is the goal.

As Viviana explains: “Instead of forcing the skin to repair, it supports the biological processes of regeneration, helping to switch tissue from a pro-inflammatory state towards a more regulated, anti-inflammatory environment, while supporting collagen, the extracellular matrix (the skin’s structural scaffold) and healthy microcirculation.”

Crucially, it does far more than treat rosacea. Practitioners are seeing great results across a broad range of concerns from firmness, elasticity and fine lines to acne, scarring, pigmentation, psoriasis and melasma, as well as stretch marks and post-surgical recovery.

The idea is consistent across all: Calming inflammation and supporting the skin’s ability to repair and function better over time. Healthier tissue is the aim of the game.

And what does it actually feel like?

The treatment itself is genuinely enjoyable. After a consultation, a scent-free conductivity cream is applied, before your therapist puts on surgical gloves attached to the machine and performs a gentle, methodical massage while transmitting the resonance into the skin. The sensation is warm, pleasant and around 30 minutes long, with — you’ll be relieved to hear — no pain, shocks or downtime. Most patients find their skin looks and feels immediately calmer after the first treatment, but the bigger changes are cumulative.

In my case, each session built on the last, with clearer, calmer skin emerging gradually. My complexion also looked and felt a bit plumper, more refined and definitely more resilient.

Is this the future of aesthetics?

This, to me, is where Rexonage is especially interesting. Inflammation isn’t only an issue for rosacea and reactive skin. We increasingly understand that chronic, low-grade inflammation is also involved in the ageing process, affecting collagen, the skin barrier and its ability to regenerate. “For decades, aesthetic medicine has largely relied on creating these controlled injuries that ask the skin to repair,” says Viviana.

“But the future is regenerative — looking at the skin as part of a whole system interconnected with the brain, gut health, hormones and much more. Treatments will increasingly focus on reducing inflammation, improving tissue quality and delivering results that continue to improve because the skin itself has become healthier.” I don’t know about you, but to me, it’s a vision for the future that I find pretty compelling — and exciting, too.
