New Strictly Come Dancing It Takes Two host Ellie Taylor has shared an update after she rushed her three-year-old son to hospital during their holiday.
It was recently announced that Ellie, 42, will replace Janette Manrara and Fleur East as the presenter of the Strictly spin-off show. Taking to Instagram over the weekend, Ellie revealed that during a family holiday to the Sussex coast, she had to take her young son to hospital after he became ill.
Ellie and her husband, Phil Black, share two children together, a daughter born in 2018 and a son born in November 2023. Prior to arriving at their Airbnb in Sussex, Ellie’s son had a mild cough. However, once they got there, Ellie said he was ‘struggling to breathe’.
Heading to Chichester A&E late at night, Ellie said her son was given steroids to try and help him get better and sharing a picture, she said: “I’ve been to A&E five times with this child and it’s always when I’m serving make-up-free and knackered hag.”
Remaining upbeat, however, Ellie added: “Staff were all brilliant and the steroids even better. We were home by midnight and determined to crack on and enjoy a few days on the beach after all the lovely sun we’ve had.”
Despite her son feeling better, Ellie’s holiday hit another bump when it began to rain heavily following weeks of sun across the UK. Then, her son unfortunately fell on the way to a meal.
“Croupy child seemed a little perkier so we thought we’d try out dinner. YAY! But then obviously he fell over on the gravel on the way and cut his leg. Boo,” Ellie said.
Ellie noted that their dinner ‘lasted approximately 12 minutes’ due him ‘wailing throughout the meal’. On top of this, Ellie managed to spill her drink over her phone. Sharing a picture, which showed her blood-stained pink T-shirt, Ellie stated: “Holidays with young kids are something else. I maintain you shouldn’t bother going away with your kids until the smallest is 5.
“One day I’ll take my own advice but until then I’ll be the husk in a Next one piece instigating another emergency game of hide and seek. Loved the fun bits of course, but man it’s good to be home.”
Captioning her post, Ellie jokingly told her fans: “Nothing like being on holiday dreaming of being on holiday. Are you even a mother if you haven’t said the phrase ‘Everyone’s getting on my t*ts’ at least once by the time the breakfast buffet opens.”
Just days ago, it was revealed that Ellie would be taking over as host of Strictly: It Takes Two. The comedienne originally took part in the 2022 series of the show, during which she and pro dancer Johannes Radebe finished in seventh place.
Ellie said in a statement: “What a total joy to return to Strictly in this new role. I feel incredibly honoured to follow in the footsteps of the phenomenal line-up of hosts who’ve made Strictly – It Takes Two so loved over the years.
“I can’t wait to immerse myself in all the gossip and sequins flying out of the ballroom in order to bring my fellow Strictly fans everything they need to know. I’m so excited, I could cha cha, but I won’t, don’t worry, no one needs to see that again.”
