Friday Night Dinner creator Robert Popper has written a new sitcom.
Netflix has commissioned six episodes of Marbles, a “multi-generational comedy about a couple raising ridiculously lively young boys, while caring for ridiculously difficult ageing parents, and coping with the craziness of life in the middle”.
Robert Webb, Timothy Spall, Alexandra Roach, Denise Welch and Louise Brealey will lead the cast.
The blurb explains: “How do you stop your kids from hiding your keys in a bowl of milk, or sleeping in a cardboard box, while convincing your seventy-five year old father to move out of your bloody house? For Sam and Samantha, this is their life. It’s a glorious mess. And it’s about to get messier. A brilliantly observed, laugh-out-loud comedy about being squeezed from both ends of life – and slowly losing your marbles in the middle.”
The episodes will be filmed this autumn by Friday Night Dinner producers Big Talk Studios and Popper Pictures.
Marbles is one of a number of commissions announced by Netflix today. It’s also commissioned Brassic writer Daniel Brocklehurst to script a series based around Roald Dahl‘s iconic short stories and Jig, a new six part mockumentary set in the high-stakes world of competitive Irish dancing from Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee.
