A raucous first-look trailer has been unveiled for Ink, the upcoming drama film written by James Graham and directed by Danny Boyle.
The film, based on Graham’s play of the same name, depicts the rapid rise of The Sun newspaper under its owner Rupert Murdoch and editor Larry Lamb, and how the tabloid would come to change the face of news forever.
As seen in the trailer, Jack O’Connell (Sinners) plays Lamb while Guy Pearce (The Dog Stars) takes on the role of Murdoch, and Claire Foy (The Crown) plays Jules Davies, a fictional reporter who is an amalgam of real-life figures working at the time.
You can watch the trailer, which features plenty of camera trickery in Boyle’s trademark style, right here now.
The synopsis for Ink calls it “an explosive cinematic rollercoaster about a group of visionaries and misfits who had an idea for a new kind of news – one that would give the people what they want and would change the face of the world we live in today”.
The film is set to receive its world premiere screening at the Venice International Film Festival later today, while it will release in UK and Ireland cinemas on Friday 8 January 2027.
Boyle’s most recent film releases have included 28 Years Later and Yesterday, while he was also behind the 2022 miniseries Pistol.
Meanwhile, Graham has been behind series including Dear England, Brian and Maggie and Sherwood, the latter of which is set to return for a third season soon.
Ahead of Dear England, Graham spoke with us for The Radio Times Writers’ Room, for a wide-ranging chat about his career.
As part of this, he spoke about Ink, saying: “I really like origin stories – going back to the first principles of anything, whether it be in the case of my Claire Foy movie, Rupert Murdoch arriving on Fleet Street, or Dear England and the origins of the next wave of players. There’s something about going back to those early stories that’s really satisfying.”
Ink will be released in UK and Ireland cinemas on Friday 8 January 2027.
