New podcast, Where Do We Go From Here?, hosted by Angie Greaves and Charlotte Graham-Cumming welcomes Fleur East as the first guest.
The series, from The Television and Radio Industries Club, offers listeners an in-depth look at the personal and professional journeys of well-known figures in music, radio, and entertainment.
In the first episode, Hits Radio Breakfast presenter Fleur discusses the challenges and turning points that have shaped her career.
Fleur shares how her experience as a performer influences her approach to interviewing artists on on-air, noting that her background helps break down barriers with guests and leads to more open conversations.
She says: “If we ever interview artists on Hits Radio, a lot of the time, because they’re aware of what I’ve done in the industry, the wall is down immediately.
“They’ll be like, ‘When I was working on the album — Fleur, you know what it’s like.’ Immediately, there is someone here who gets it.”
Reflecting on her time on The X Factor and working with Simon Cowell, Fleur describes him as both a mentor and collaborator, saying: “Simon was like a collaborator, like a mentor, but we would discuss things. He would sit me down and go, ‘What do you want to do for this? How do you see this working?’ He was very aware of what I’d done before. It was very much a partnership.”
Fleur also speaks openly about setbacks in her career, particularly the period before her return to The X Factor in 2014, when she felt frustrated and questioned her path after previous record deals did not lead to the breakthrough she expected.
She credits her support network, especially her husband, for helping her navigate difficult decisions and new opportunities, including her role in Tina Turner the Musical.
Fleur says her husband is “almost like a career advisor as well as a husband. He’s like my dad.”
Upcoming episodes of the podcast will feature guests such as radio presenter Ben Jones and TV personality Ainsley Harriott.
