The Independent Podcast Awards, now in their fourth year, were established in 2023 to recognise creators who operate without backing from large brands. These independent producers represent around 75% of the UK podcast market.

Globally, YouTube reports that over 100 million hours of podcast content are watched daily by more than 1 billion monthly active podcast users. Many UK media and entertainment professionals began their careers on the platform.

Podcast creators today often manage teams and studios, and YouTube’s tools for video podcasting, including AI-powered Shorts suggestions and multi-language dubbing, are designed to help streamline production and support authentic storytelling.

Alison Lomax, Managing Director of YouTube UKI, commented: “We are thrilled to celebrate the innovation and creativity of the UK’s independent podcasting sector at this year’s awards.

“Podcast creators are a key part of the UK’s creator ecosystem, and YouTube has become a home where they are now building sustainable businesses.”

Emma Turner, co-founder of the Independent Podcast Awards, said: “We’re delighted to have YouTube as our Headline Partner for this year’s event.

“To have such an esteemed brand supporting the awards shows just how important indie creators are in the podcasting world.”

This year’s awards received over 540 entries, the highest number to date. Since their launch, more than 1,400 entries have been submitted, with over 500 podcasts shortlisted and 75 winners celebrated.

Judging for the 2026 awards is already underway, with the shortlist expected in mid-September.

The ceremony will take place at Kings Place in Kings Cross, London, on Wednesday 4 November.
