Will Best’s backstage Big Brother ritual that’s ‘going to be so weird’ on Strictly

The TV presenter will grace the Strictly Come Dancing dancefloor days after Big Brother’s return

One of the latest stars set to appear in the upcoming series of Strictly Come Dancing has revealed that their usual pre-show ritual will feel ‘very weird’ on the show.

Will Best is one of the famous faces set to strut their stuff when the BBC series returns next week. The 41-year-old television presenter from London will be hoping to impress returning judges Shirley Ballas, Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke with his moves.

He will be joined by the likes of former Love Island star Dani Dyer, EastEnders actress Lacey Turner and ex-footballer Shaun Wright-Phillips to name a few. However, a week before the Strictly launch show, which airs on September 19 at 7.25pm on BBC1, he will also be returning to his normal job.

The latest series of Big Brother kicks off on Sunday (September 13) with its own live episode from 9pm on ITV2 and streaming on ITVX. The show is once again hosted by Will alongside AJ Odudu as the pair welcome a new line-up of housemates.

During the eight week duration of the reality series, he will also be needing to keep up with his routines. Something he has already admitted is causing some early nerves.

He explained: “It’s not that I’m particularly nervous about the movement, although I am obviously nervous about that, it’s the fear of getting lost on the dancefloor and not knowing what my legs are supposed to do next.

“There is a reason why I don’t do TikTok dances on my feed. It’s mainly because they take me about a week to learn!”

Having regularly worked in live television previously, Will revealed that he does already have a nailed down pre-show ritual he uses to get himself primed for the cameras. For his run on Strictly though, he is expecting that this will actually feel very unusual for a specific reason.

That is he will not have his usual partner in crime in AJ alongside him. Detailing his ritual he said: “Before every live Big Brother show, I have one small beer, a cola, and a water – separately! I basically have three drinks and it’s always quite difficult to hold them all.”

He admitted that he will have to alter this as he added: “I probably shouldn’t have the cola just before dancing, because I don’t want to be, you know, gassy if I am very close to somebody else’s face… “

But the final part of his routine will take the most getting used to. He explained: “I also always give AJ a hug before going live, so it’s going to be so weird getting all spruced up in my Cuban heels and my low-cut shirts and not having AJ there to wave me off onto the stage!”

Meanwhile, AJ has teased fans over what is promised as the ‘biggest’ iteration of Big Brother ever. In a recent interview, she said: “The story unfolds every single night. It’s live. Everyone’s under surveillance constantly.”

Big Brother returns September 13 at 9pm on ITV2 and ITVX. Strictly Come Dancing starts on September 19 at 7.25pm on BBC1 and iPlayer.
