Jessica Chastain‘s The Savant finally has a release date. A year after Apple pulled the limited series off its schedule just three days before it was set to premiere, on Sept. 26, 2025, the streamer has rescheduled it for spring 2027, Deadline reports. The exact date is still being finalized, but the timing will make the series eligible for the 2027 Emmys.
Apple offered no specific reasoning when it benched the show in 2025, but the decision came down to The Savant‘s storyline about extremist attacks and imagery including sniper attacks, which was considered potentially triggering two weeks after the Sept. 10 killing of conservative podcaster Charlie Kirk.
Chastain made clear at the time that she was “not aligned” with the move. “I want to say how much I value my partnership with Apple. They’ve been incredible collaborators and I deeply respect their team,” the Oscar-winning actress wrote on Instagram, adding: “I’ve never shied away from difficult subjects, and while I wish this show wasn’t so relevant, unfortunately it is. The Savant is about the heroes who work every day to stop violence before it happens, and honoring their courage feels more urgent than ever.”
“While I respect Apple’s decision to pause the release for now, I remain hopeful the show will reach audiences soon,” Chastain continued. “Until then, I’m wishing safety and strength for everyone, and I’ll let you know if and when The Savant is released.”
Here’s everything you need to know about The Savant and its long-delayed premiere.
What is The Savant?
Based on the Cosmopolitan article by Andrea Stanley titled “Is It Possible to Stop a Mass Shooting Before It Happens?,” The Savant follows Jodi Goodwin (Chastain), a veteran who investigates hate groups online in an attempt to identify potential for domestic terror attacks and help thwart them before they can ever take place.
The series hails from Anonymous Content and Fifth Season (Severance) with Melissa James Gibson (The American, House of Cards) serving as showrunner.
Who stars in The Savant?
Joining Chastain in the limited series are Nnamdi Asomugha (The Good Nurse), Pablo Schreiber (Halo, American Gods), and James Badge Dale (The Departed, Iron Man 3), along with Cole Doman and Trinity Lee Shirley.

Why was The Savant postponed?
Apple didn’t offer any specific reasoning behind the last-minute delay, but various publications were quick to draw connections between the domestic terror themes of the limited series and the Sept. 10, 2025 killing of conservative podcaster Charlie Kirk.
Two days after Kirk’s death, Apple scuttled its planned Sept. 15 media event with Chastain, postponing it until mid-October. Again, the move was made without explanation, but the timing is impossible to ignore.
When will The Savant premiere?
Apple TV is targeting spring 2027 for The Savant, roughly a year and a half after its original launch date. The exact premiere date is still being finalized, but the spring window puts the limited series in the running at the 2027 Emmys.
This story was published on Sept. 23, 2025; it has been updated on Sept. 20, 2026 with Chastain’s comments and the new release timeline.
