Good Morning Britain’s Entertainment Editor Richard Arnold has married his longtime partner of over two decades, Stuart, as he revealed some details from their wedding
Good Morning Britain presenter Richard Arnold has married his longtime partner Stuart. The journalist, 56, who is the entertainment editor on the ITV programme, announced the news on Monday’s show, 21 September, telling hosts Kate Garraway and Ed Balls: “I got spliced!”
A photo of the couple appeared on screen, with Richard adding: “That’s myself and my other half Stuart, and now my husband.” Kate said: “Aww, is that the first time you’ve said that?”, to which Richard replied: “It is actually.”
The couple married on Friday, 18 September at London’s Hackney Town Hall with Richard’s sisters-in-law from Melbourne in attendance, along with his “besties from the 80s.”
The presenter, who is from Hampshire but moved to Scotland as child, wore a kilt for the ceremony, which he revealed was actually a prop from GMB’s wardrobe department. He said: “That all came from wardrobe. That’s how bad I am at organising these things.”
Kate was left stunned at his wedding confession, saying: “What?! Our wardrobe here at Good Morning Britain, goodness me!” Richard said: “It was a prop!” The newlywed then thanked the GMB team and viewers for their support, as Kate said: “Everybody is so thrilled.”
Richard had shared a photo of himself and Stuart on their wedding day on his Instagram and wrote: “The splice of life!” Another snap showed the couple’s dog donning a white bow tie emblazoned with the words “I do too.” While many of his followers originally thought the pair had got engaged, Richard confirmed on today’s show that they had indeed tied the knot.
Susanna Reid commented: “THE BIGGEST BESTEST NEWS – massive congratulations and tons of love”, while Amanda Holden wrote: “Omg” along with several party popper emojis, and Ruth Langsford said: “How wonderful! Congratulations and wishing you all the happiness in the world.”
GMB’s weather presenter Laura Tobin said: “What!!! This is the best news EVER! Congratulations Dickie and Stuart”, while Lorraine Kelly said: “Congrats – gorgeous photo.”
Richard and his partner have been together since the early 2000s. In 2020, Richard gave Stuart a romantic shout-out while on GMB, wishing him a “Happy anniversary” on air.
He also previously opened up about their home in London, during an interview with House Beautiful in 2022, saying: “Having never had an outdoor space before, I was really keen to get started on the garden straight away when we moved in.
“Even though we live in central London and you hear the occasional siren, it really is an oasis. It’s extraordinarily quiet, really.”
