*Warning – contains full spoilers for all six episodes of The Undeclared War.*

It took four years, but finally Channel 4 cyber thriller The Undeclared War is back, with all six episodes of the new season available to stream now on Channel 4.

Season 2 tells a particularly personal story for Simon Pegg’s Danny, introducing his wife Barbara, played by Blue Lights star Siân Brooke.

It also ends in dramatic fashion, with a lot of the central storyline wrapped up, but certain threads are still dangling which could be picked up in a future instalment. But will they be?

Read on for everything we know so far about the potential for The Undeclared War season 3.

Will there be a season 3 of The Undeclared War?

We don’t yet know whether The Undeclared War will be back for season 3, as the show has yet to be officially renewed.

This is hardly surprising. Season 2 has only just been released, so hopefully we should get news soon regarding the show’s future, which will likely be dependent on the viewing figures for the new episodes.

Of course, even if we don’t hear for some time, that isn’t necessarily a death knell for the show – season 2 was only confirmed in 2025, three years after season 1 first aired.

From a creative standpoint, it certainly seems as though the cast and crew are keen to return. Simon Pegg said there could “absolutely” be a season 3, when speaking with Radio Times.

“I’ve had a couple of conversations with the writer about where we could go next, in terms of what the status quo is at the end of the series. Obviously, everything’s changed,” he said.

Pegg continued: “I really love doing the show. It’s so much fun, and I love the writing. Going from being in a very fantastical kind of spy story in Mission: Impossible to this, which is much more grounded but no less intriguing – because this is real. All the gadgets in this exist. There’s no fantasy in this. It’s all rooted in reality.”

Meanwhile, his co-star Hannah Khalique-Brown said that “there’s definitely scope” for more episodes, but “whether or not it happens, we don’t know.”

We will keep this page updated with any news regarding the show’s future as we get it.

When would a potential The Undeclared War season 3 be released?

Given that the series has not yet been renewed, it’s difficult to say just when a third season would debut.

There was certainly a long gap between seasons 1 and 2 – four years, in fact. We’d hope that a potential season 3 would arrive sooner, but there is no certainty of that, meaning we could be looking at a release date at any point between 2027, a year from now, right through to 2030.

Of course, this is all speculation for now, and we will have to wait for word on the show’s future to know more about when a potential third season would air on Channel 4.

Who could return to star in a potential The Undeclared War season 3?

No cast has been confirmed for a potential third season of The Undeclared War yet, given that the drama hasn’t been officially renewed.

The cast changed up dramatically between the first and second seasons, but if the show were to continue, we would certainly expect to see returns for Simon Pegg, Hannah Khalique-Born and Siân Brooke.

One major figure from season 2 who may not be back is Ed Stoppard, whose foreign secretary character, Richard Marston, was brought down at the end of episode 6.

For now, here’s a list of the main characters from The Undeclared War season 2 who could return for season 3:

  • Simon Pegg as Danny Patrick
  • Hannah Khalique-Brown as Saara Parvin
  • Siân Brooke as Barbara Patrick
  • Alex Jennings as David Neal
  • Danny Sapani as Charlie Francis
  • Chloe Pirrie as Roz Cavendish
  • German Segal as Vadim Trusov
  • Joss Porter as Phil

Is there a trailer for The Undeclared War season 3?

A trailer for The Undeclared War season 3 has not yet been released. As a third season has not been confirmed, no footage or teaser exists at this stage, though you can rewatch the trailer for season 2 in the meantime. This page will be updated if and when a trailer for season 3 does become available.
