Amazon MGM is going all-in on Michael B. Jordan. Fresh off his Best Actor victory at the 2026 Oscar ceremony for Sinners, the actor is directing and starring in the studio’s updated version of The Thomas Crown Affair opposite Adria Arjona. It’s the third iteration of a story involving the eponymous billionaire thief and the woman who becomes his willing partner in crime… among other things. 1968’s original Thomas Crown Affair was directed by Norman Jewison and starred Steve McQueen and Faye Dunaway, and the 1999 remake was helmed by John McTiernan with Pierce Brosnan and Rene Russo in the lead roles.
Back in April, Jordan treated CinemaCon crowds to a first look at the film during Amazon MGM’s star-studded presentation. One month removed from his Oscar victory, the actor received a hero’s welcome from the crowd. “I’ve been dreaming about making this movie for years,” Jordan said, remembering that he was 12 years old when he saw the Brosnan-Russo version. “I wanted to give Crown a mission and make him someone you could root for.”
The actor-director then presented a sleek, sultry trailer that is now available for the world to see. The minute-and-a-half teaser finds Crown musing on his double life as a public facing billionaire and a private theif. “I’ve been taking risks my entire life,” he muses. “But last night was different. I felt alive.”
Enter Arjona’s insurance investigator, who is tasked with exposing Crown’s crimes only to join in the fun. Not that she’s a pushover by any means. “I know exactly who you are,” Arjona says knowingly when the sharply-dressed Tom introduces himself.
Watch the trailer above and read on for everything else you need to know about The Thomas Crown Affair ahead of its March 5 release date. And look for lots more Jordan over in the Amazon MGM world — as revealed at the company’s upfront in May, he’s behind multiple Prime Video series, including a Creed spin-off.

The plot
Here’s Amazon MGM’s official logline: “Academy Award winner Michael B. Jordan directs, produces, and stars in a visually breathtaking, sensual, and unexpectedly moving heist thriller, where the most dangerous man in the room is the one nobody’s watching.”
The cast and creative team
Besides Jordan and Arjona, the film’s cast includes Kenneth Branah, Lily Gladstone, Danai Gurira, and Pilou Asbæk.
Behind the camera, Drew Pearce and Jason Hall wrote the screenplay from a story by Pearce and Alan R. Trustman, based on his screenplay for the 1968 original. Jordan produced the film alongside Elizabeth Raposo, Marc Toberoff, Patrick McCormick, and Charles Roven. The executive producers are Trustman and Jason Hall.
Who’s directing
Not satisfied with being a successful and charismatic movie star, Jordan is also continuing to grow his résumé as a director. The new Thomas Crown Affair will be his second directorial effort after helming Creed III. The third film in the Rocky spin-off series was a massive hit, earning $276 million globally, making the most successful Creed to date. Jordan is also attached to direct a fourth film for the franchise, but the timeline for that sequel is still unclear.
The Thomas Crown Affair is shooting in London, a new locale for the title. The previous iterations filmed in Boston and New York.
The awards prospects
With a March 5 release date, Amazon MGM clearly sees The Thomas Crown Affair as a blockbuster-in-waiting like its first quarter sci-fi hit, Project Hail Mary. But Crown has stolen Oscar attention in the past. The original film was nominated for Best Original Score and picked up the Best Original Song statuette for “The Windmills of Your Mind,” at the 41st Academy Awards. And Jordan smartly hired Oscar, Emmy, and Grammy-winner Jon Batiste to score his version, which could bring the former Late Show bandleader another nomination.
When’s it coming out
The film will open in theaters on March 5, 2027.
