Alan Carr will officially join the upcoming season of The Masked Singer – but there’s a major twist in store.

As chatty man Carr brings his razor-sharp wit, infectious laugh and hilarious commentary, he will also bring his own rival team of detectives to guess the identities of the celebrities hidden behind the masks.

Carr and his team – the Wild Cards – will go head-to-head against rival super sleuths Davina McCall, Mo Gilligan, Maya Jama and Jonathan Ross, now known as the Legends.

The Wild Cards will aim to give the Legends a run for their money to work out who is behind the masks and be crowned the best detectives of The Masked Singer 2027.

Joel Dommett will once again return to host the guessing game, as the panels attempt to unmask a brand new cast of bold and beautiful characters.

Carr said: “I can’t wait to play detective – so excited to be shouting ‘take it off’ in the actual studio rather than on my settee at home. A dream come true.”

The comedian is no stranger to the show either, having previously appeared a guest panellist.

Katie Rawcliffe, ITV’s director of entertainment, reality and daytime, commented : “We are thrilled to welcome Alan Carr to The Masked Singer. His wit and energy are the perfect addition to our new ‘rival panel’ and we can’t wait for viewers to see the sparks fly.”

The latest season of The Masked Singer drew to a close earlier this year, which saw Keisha Buchanan crowned the winner.

Asked how it felt to win, Buchanan said: “I can’t believe I got through it. It was so grueling but beautiful. I did a song that I’ve never done, like Whitney [Houston], I’ve never sung a Whitney song! Aerosmith, that was the scariest one.

“Whitney and Aerosmith were the hardest because I knew her, I never wanted to do her songs because I loved her so much. She was an amazing person. And Aerosmith, I just can’t rap to save my life so it was such a challenge.”

The Masked Singer will return to ITV1 and ITVX.
