The new season of Teaching Through Emotions offers listeners a rare look inside real Teacher Support Groups, following educators as they move from struggle to resolution.

Host Betsy Burris, PhD, a teacher educator and psychotherapist, brings her two decades of experience running these groups directly to the podcast, with each episode focusing on one teacher’s journey.

Rather than treating difficult emotions and challenging behaviour as problems, the show frames them as data, helping teachers and listeners reframe their experiences and find practical solutions.

Episodes in the fourth season will address classroom management, teacher burnout, and the emotional challenges that come with high-stakes teaching, providing both practical tools and reassurance for educators.

Betsy said: “The work teachers do in TSGs is miraculous. They come in to our meetings feeling angry or frustrated or panicked, sure they know whatʼs going on in their difficult relationships, and they leave feeling calm, centered, and compassionate — and completely surprised at the complete change in the way they see things.”

The season launches today,1 October, just as the school year’s initial optimism gives way to the everyday pressures of the classroom, and coincides with World Teacher’s Day on 5 October and World Mental Health Day on 10 October.

Teaching Through Emotions has been recognised by the Women Who Podcast Award in the Thought-Provoking category for two consecutive years, first in 2025 and again in August 2026.

Beyond the podcast, Betsy publishes weekly essays and practical tools for teachers on her Substack, and is the author of The Feeling of Teaching.

New episodes will be available on Apple Podcasts, Spotify, and other major platforms. Full community access is available by visiting teachingthroughemotions.com/subscribe.

All stories are real, shared anonymously with participant consent, and the podcast is intended for educational purposes only, not as a substitute for professional mental health care.
